Hiking Trips And Shrimp Trucks

We find this island filled with good hiking trails.
Who'd have thought an abandoned highway filled with the traffic noise of its newer replacement road below could make such a pleasant hike?
Pali Trail & Likeke Falls (4 mi round trip)
And better yet, when you ventured off through a world of old graffiti and trash that you'd be rewarded with a pretty jungly waterfall?

A little rough at spots - we needed to hop down under the highway.

.... and swing on tree branches to get over a stream! (just kidding)

Walking on a remnant of the original hand-laid Pali Trail. This was once the main thoroughfare for farmers bringing produce to the growing port of Honolulu.

We actually did not make it all the way to the falls but turned around here at this little mini fall.

Kualoa Ranch is a huge, breathtakingly beautiful windward ranch. It's also a giant visitor-processing machine that in some areas does a good job, but their prices are high. Many of their customers are tour groups from Japan not a family of five from ...well Hawaii I guess (for now)...
They have horseback rides, ATV tours and more... This is where Jurassic Park and other  movies were filmed.
We just checked it out, walked around, got some fresh cocos and took a few pics. They also have a small petting ZOO for kids.

We stopped at Tropical Farms - the only mac nut farm - on the island which has a pretty garden area and gorgeous monkey pod trees providing shade. They're very generous with the flavored mac nut samples and  we even cracked our own raw mac nuts.

Lucie loved them. Well, she loves everything.

Hiking along the shoreline on the North side of the island.

A resting monk seal!

She is a trooper!

There are numerous shrimp trucks on the North Shore. All plates will run you about $13 for 9 shrimp plus two scoops of white rice and a small salad.
Not the best I have had but will do after a nice hike!
