Getting Settled, Breaking The New Ground....

"I need to focus on how I can get it done, and not bemoan the fact that I have to do it." was a motto that really helped me get lots of things done. And I mean LOTS of things. While the to- do - list is still quite long we are getting to a point when we can get out and explore a little more. Let's explore!

Here is a pic of our jungle yard that nobody took care of for 10 years. Eli to the rescue! He has been trimming down bit by bit. Notice the two massive banana trees. We plan to completely trimmed down the grass and put some veggie boxes there. A little bench and a play set as soon as I can get a deal off craigslist!
Really thankful for Fanda coming he will be a GREAT help!

Tady je fotka části naší zahrady, o kterou se nikdo deset let nestaral. Elijíšek se snaží po kouskách to vysekat křoviňákem. To je džungle! A dva velké banánovníky!

Our first hike. Pu'u o Hulu hike on the Leeward (west side) of Oahu. A short 2 mile trip with 800 feet elevation gain. Steep climb that leads to a spectacular leeward lookout. At the top are abandoned fire control stations for army coastel artillery batteries. We also found wild basil (took some seeds), wild tomatoes and  amazing trees along the way.

Náš první výšlap! Krátký, ale náročný výstup na kopec na západní straně ostrova. Krásný výhled! Na hoře jsou opuštěné vojenské strážní bunkry.

View of Kapolei coast.
Výhled na pobřeží, kde bydlíme.

Our house has two large patios that we really enjoy. We planted a little herb garden in clay pots, added some hanging baskets and bananas. Our patio is beautiful. It provides me with fresh herbs, and gives me the feeling of putting down roots. But that's not all. The bananas draw many colorful singing birds. I like that. I sure can use some cheerleaders along through each chapter of settling in!

Náš dům ma velký balkón s výhledem na oceán. Do květináčů jsme si zasadili bylinky.

Maunawili Falls hike - well at least the beginning of it - we did last weekend. We noticed mud covered hikers and did not pay much attention to it. Then we run into a MUDDY trail that was just well... too muddy.. for our liking. Fun but maybe for a different time. Last thing I wanted was to slide down the hill on my but trying to catch one of my children or all three - more like it.

Další výšlap, tentokrát k vodopádům na východní straně ostrova, který jsme ale vzdali, protože stezka byla samé bahno.

Lucie, " I got it, dad! I got it!"
To je turista!

Ka' iwa Ridge. This short, steep hike climbs a dry, windy ridge above Lanikai. From the observation bunkers are magnificent views of the windward coast and the Ko'olau cliffs. We loved every bit of it!

Výšlap na východní straně ostrova nad Lanikai. Krásný výhled na okolí! Děti šlapaly jak o závod!
Silný vítr.

Our house faces West so we get amazing sunsets every evening. This one was extra pretty! God's Glory!

Západ slunce z našeho obýváku!
